At Serenity Ultrasound, scans are performed by HCPC-registered sonographers, ensuring both a safe and professional experience for you and your family. Alongside this special bonding experience, your scan will also include:

  • Confirmation of baby’s wellbeing (heartbeat, movement, amniotic fluid level, placenta position)
  • Baby’s position and presentation
  • Optional gender confirmation (if requested)

Alongside this bonding experience, every appointment includes a wellbeing and presentation check, giving you reassurance about your baby’s heartbeat, movement, and fluid levels. For parents who wish, gender confirmation can also be provided.

Your baby changes rapidly between 20 and 34 weeks of pregnancy, and our 3D/4D packages are designed to capture these special stages:

20-26 weeks: Baby begins practising swallowing, early facial expressions appear, and coordinated movements such as kicks and stretches become visible.

24-32 weeks: Features like the eyes, lips, and nose are more defined, and you may notice thumb-sucking or yawning.

27-34 weeks: Baby’s cheeks become rounder, facial detail is clearer, and you may see smiles or sucking movements as they begin preparing for birth.

A 3D/4D bonding scan is a non-diagnostic scan. It is not designed to detect abnormalities and does not replace the NHS fetal anomaly scan offered between 18–22 weeks.

Image quality depends on several factors, including fetal position, maternal BMI, placental position and amniotic fluid levels. If satisfactory images cannot be obtained, a free rescan will be offered in line with our rescan policy.

Serenity Ultrasound cannot be held responsible for any condition or abnormality not detected during this scan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before Your Appointment

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your scan to help improve image clarity. Have a light snack beforehand to encourage baby’s movement, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for easy access.

During Your Appointment

You will be made comfortable while your sonographer performs the scan and explains what they can see. Your partner or loved ones are welcome to join you. The appointment takes 20-40 minutes depending on your chosen package.

After Your Appointment

You will leave with your printed images, a recording of your scan, and digital images available to download securely. Any optional extras purchased in clinic will also be provided before you leave.

Important Information

This service is designed to complement, not replace, routine NHS care. If results indicate any concerns, we will recommend appropriate follow-up with your GP or specialist.
