Abdominal Ultrasound Scan

Price From – £89

An abdominal ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the organs inside your abdomen. It is one of the most commonly performed ultrasound examinations, trusted for its accuracy and safety.

This scan helps to investigate symptoms such as pain and/or bloating and can detect conditions affecting the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and abdominal blood vessels. It is also frequently used as part of routine health checks, giving patients reassurance and clinicians valuable information for early diagnosis.

An abdominal ultrasound is recommended for anyone experiencing ongoing or unexplained abdominal symptoms. If you have persistent pain, bloating, or discomfort, this scan can help identify the cause and provide peace of mind.

It is also suitable for patients who notice changes in digestion or appetite, unexplained weight loss, or swelling in the abdomen.

People with a family history of gallstones, liver disease, kidney problems, or abdominal aortic aneurysm may choose to have this scan as a preventative health check.

In many cases, GPs and other healthcare professionals also recommend abdominal ultrasound as the first-line investigation when patients present with abdominal concerns.

During the examination, you will be asked to lie comfortably on your back while a sonographer applies a water-based gel to your abdomen. The gel allows the ultrasound probe to glide smoothly and capture clear images. The sonographer will gently move the probe across your abdomen, looking carefully at each organ in turn.

You may be asked to hold your breath or change position briefly to help obtain the clearest views. The process is painless and takes around 15-20 minutes.
